Featured Pick: Metal Hellsinger

“An incredible rhythm first-person shooter with metal tunes from popular metal legends. Fight your way through hell with demonic weapons and abilities and doing extra damage along with the beat. 9/10” - Anarxix on Steam

Metal Hellsinger was such a treat to stream. I always see these games and keep tabs on them, this was definitely one of those games. For many years I was the Videographer at a music festival called Rock On The Range, over in Ohio. And I had a blast, just running around filming interviews and meeting my favorite artists. I used to be quite the metalhead. I thought I was so edgy lol.

But this game took me back to many artists that I grew up with including Trivium, Arch Enemy, Lamb of God, Soilwork, and of course System of a Down. I feel like this was a win for all of us who grew up with Guitar Hero and Rock Band. Which are now “retro” btw, so yeah, feel old.

It was nice though to pay tribute to that, and bring these incredible artists out in a video game that can make it relatable to newer generations. It’s just like newer generations discovering Nirvana through the new Batman. Okay, okay, I’ll stop! Enough of the statements that make us feel ancient.

Gameplay wise, it was quite tough to get back into rhythm mechanics since I haven’t touched a rhythm game in maybe, uh, five years. Guitar Hero was my jam, after I left it, there weren’t any rhythm games that took its place. But anyways, the game is so good I pushed on and did my best and actually started really getting into it. I wanted to have fun with it but after a while the game gets quite challenging and the headbanging just turns into “eyes-not-blinking focus”. It is with great pride that I can say I completed the whole final level without dying, after a few tries.

The music drives you and you lose all track of time. I streamed and beat this game in one sitting. Could not leave. It had me entranced and I couldn’t stop shooting demons in the face with a beat. Another one of those games that just make you feel like a badass and this one also comes with a soundtrack for your badassery. I just can’t say enough good things about this game. Even the companies who worked on the game are such wonderful people from what I know of. Although, one of them believes pineapple belongs on pizza and that is simply just not true.

To wrap things up, if you have any percentage of metalhead in your blood, you should play this game. You can play this game competitively, you can put it on Easy and just have fun, play it any way you want it. And they just added a functionality where you can add your own music to the game and slay demons to your own tunes! Like, it doesn’t stop getting better. Now we have that game, the one where you’re a demon in hell slaying other demons to any kind of music you want. Thank you to the devs at The Outsiders and to Funcom for giving us one hell of a gift!
