What’s-Hot: The Horror Game Wave
So there are a ton of horror games coming out. Like, it’s been happening. Indie horror games are getting shot out everyday, meanwhile there are some AAA horror games that are about to make their way onto our screens. Many that we have been waiting on for a while now.
Earlier in the year, there was strong marketing for the new revamped Dead Space, and its competitor Callisto Protocol, from previous co-creator of Dead Space, Glen Schofield.
I must admit that I am excited for both games. Its not really competitive to me. The other thing that would bug me is any disrespect to either IP(intellectual property). But I am anticipating Callisto Protocol a bit more since it is the first one to release, which is on December 2nd. I don’t like watching too many trailers of anything but all of what I have seen of the gameplay and cinematics truly look incredible! There is even an achievement for seeing every death of your character. Done!
Meanwhile, Dead Space releases January 27th of 2023. So with Callisto Protocol still being fresh, maybe gamers will thrive for more and hop straight into Dead Space. But get ready for the comparisons between both. Many saying one is better than the other when, once again, I don’t see the need for a comparison. I’m excited to just play and judge them separately and enjoy the experience.
But this post can’t exist and not talk about a highly anticipated game by the name of Scorn. This game truly looks incredible with its H.R. Giger influence in its environment and its unique approach on organic puzzles. I am a huge fan of atmospheric horror and we are just getting the full feast here. But it is truly incredible to see games that are not recycled and fresh concepts are constantly being explored.
Scorn is in its own category with what it has to offer. It’s been a while since I have seen/played a game where you have to question what you are looking at, some things just not making sense at first glance. A game where you have to exist in that world to be able to understand. And once again, I pride myself on not watching too many trailers because they can spoil and I love going into a game with minimal knowledge of what I’m getting myself into.
But these I would have to say are my top three most anticipate horror titles coming out very soon. I believe that they will all have something different to offer, even if two of them are similar in style. And maybe this will be a great boost for younger gamers to dive more into the Horror section. Also, I want to do a shoutout to ILL as well, which is a highly anticipated horror game that still doesn’t have a release date sadly. But it is another game to add to your horror radar that could possibly take the genre up a level.
